Mission & Purpose

Under God, Michigan Lutheran Seminary prepares young people for a lifetime of service to the Lord Jesus Christ.

The special purpose of MLS is to train students for the public ministry of the gospel and to enroll them upon graduation at Martin Luther College, New Ulm, Minnesota.

To carry out its mission the school:

  1. Sustains a campus life centered in the Word of God as it is professed in the Lutheran Confessions
  2. Promotes service to Jesus Christ by using the gospel in Word and sacrament;
  3. Prepares students for admission to the WELS college of ministry through a balanced and challenging curriculum in the languages, sciences, and humanities;
  4. Trains international students for service either in the U.S. or in their native lands;
  5. Promotes the high calling of the public ministry of the gospel through the recruitment and retention of qualified students and through positive modeling of the ministry by faculty members;
  6. Encourages students to use their God-given talents in academics, service, competition, and performance;
  7. Deals lovingly and evangelically with every member of the campus family as a redeemed child of God, offering counseling, encouragement, and loving Christian discipline;
  8. Takes seriously the great trust that parents and guardians place in MLS and seeks to deal with students in a manner reflecting our role as caretakers and parental representatives;
  9. Maintains a faculty and staff dedicated to the school's purpose;
  10. Serves the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod.
