JV VS Vassar 8/27/08

MLS 6, Vassar 43- Learning earlier in the week that our first opponent Genesee High School, was no longer able to field a JV team, last minute efforts allowed us to play a familiar team, Vassar High School's JV, who did not have a game scheduled for week 1. After a 7-6 first quarter, the Vandals used big plays to get a 28-6 half time lead and coast to victory after that. Despite the loss, the MLS players showed much intensity and an eagerness to compete and hit. This should bode well as we get further into the season.

Varsity at Genesee 8/28/08

The Cardinals started their season on the road by traveling to Genesee high school to play the Wolves. The Cardinals opened the beginning of the scoring in the first quarter on the ground to take a 7-0 lead. Genesee responded by scoring twice to take a 14-13 lead over the Cardinals in the second quarter. MLS quickly responded by posting their third rushing touchdown of the evening to take a 21-14 lead into the half. The third quarter opened in wild fashion as the Wolves fumbled on their first play of the half; two plays later the Cardinals found the end zone again to take a 28-14 lead 30 seconds into the half. On the following kick off the wolves failed to cover the short kick and Garrett Schoch fell on it for the Cardinals. The Cardinals marched down for the 5th rushing touchdown of the game to take a 35-14 lead early in the third. The Wolves were not ready to quick and battled back to take a 36-35 lead with just under 8 minutes to play. The Cardinals responded by forcing turnovers on defense and posting the winning touchdown with 5:16 to play. Seminary added another touchdown with 2:20 to play to seal the victory with the final score being MLS 50 Genesee 36. The Cardinal rushing attack posted 427 yards and 7 touchdowns on the night. Dan Miller lead the way for individual rushers with 188 yards and 3 touchdowns, a two point conversion and the interception in the final minute to stop the wolves one last time.

JV VS St. Charles 9/4/08

MLS 7, St. Charles 0- Wow, what a game for all involved! Scoring the game's only touchdown early in the second quarter, the Seminary Defense did an amazing job of shutting down the Bulldogs newly installed single wing offense. While scoring only 7 points, the Cardinal's offense had several long second half drives that kept St. Charles from mounting anything offensively. The game was still in the balance late in the fourth quarter when Freshman Wes Towne intercepted a Bulldog pass to seal the victory. This marked the first win for the MLS JV team in almost two years, and hopefully will prove as a building block for things to come.

JV at St. Louis 9/11/08

MLS 25, St. Louis 0- In it's second shutout in as many weeks, the Seminary Cardinal JV football team continued to shine with an impressive victory over the St. Louis Sharks. Lead by the running of Sophomore Abe VanSice, and an increasingly aggressive defense, the Cardinals dominated every facet of the game. Credit also goes the Cardinal reserves, as well, as they kept the shutout intact for the entire fourth quarter. Way to go. This victory makes the JV team 2-1 on the year, and 2-0 in conference play.

JV at Carrollton 9/18/08

Seminary 7, Carrollton 41

The Seminary JV football dropped to 2-2 Thursday evening (2-1 in conference) with a tough loss to Carrollton High School. Without it’s top two quarterbacks, Sophomore running back Abe VanSice kept the Cardinals in the game in the first half with his hard running and decision making. Tied at 0-0 midway through the second quarter, the Cavaliers rattled off 20 straight points to take a 20-0 halftime lead.

A hard hitting second half, a half in which injuries continued to mount for the Cardinals, culminated with VanSice hitting freshman receiver Luke Morrell for a long touchdown late in the fourth quarter.

The JV Cardinals look to rebound Thursday night, September 25th, as they travel to Breckenridge to face the huskies. Gametime is 6pm.

JV at Breckenridge 9/25/08

MLS 28, Breckenridge 34

An exciting evening in Breckenridge saw the Seminary JV Cardinals rally back from two touchdowns down in the fourth quarter to take the lead with 1:51 left in the game. A long Breckenridge touchdown with :50 left gave the Cardinals one last chance. Freshman quarterback Chance Hayes connected on a long desperation bomb to fellow classmate Austin Head, who was tackled 15 yards short of the goal line.

It was a disappointing loss for the team, but an exciting game for all involved. The Cardinals will regroup and travel to Merrill to take on the Vandals next Thursday night @ 6pm.
