Volunteer Weekend Wrap-Up
Many thanks for all of the hard work this past weekend at Michigan Lutheran Seminary. We consider the weekend to be a great success. We hope that all of the volunteers found their efforts satisfying and that they had some fun meeting and working with other WELS people.
We accomplished much more than we had anticipated because of the large turnout of volunteers and because of their hard work across the four days. At Monday’s end, we either completed or nearly completed the following projects:
Football field bleacher renovation (The red vinyl covering material arrived yesterday afternoon from the manufacturer).
- Football field press box renovation (Staff and some volunteers got the west side covered in the new siding on Tuesday.)
- Painting the many door frames and railing in the dormitories
- New ceiling tiles in three academic area hallways
- Wall painting in academic hallways, the dormitories, and the commons restrooms
- Painting of railings in the sunken garden; refurbishing of the picnic table
- Removing of many old sinks and faucets in four restrooms to make way for installing new ones this summer
- Weeding, pruning, trimming, and mulching around the entire Court Street campus
- Preparing food and refreshments for the over 100 volunteers during the weekend
- In-putting much data into out computer system
- A number of smaller projects and much cleaning up
The weekend was truly productive! Our volunteer coordinator, Laurie Starr, has determined that our over 100 volunteers during the weekend put in well over 1,300 hours of labor; at a wage of $15.00 per hour, that means the school saved over $20,000 in labor costs.

Thanks to all of the volunteers who helped Michigan Lutheran Seminary to improve and to maintain its fine facilities. Their time, their good work, and their love and support of MLS and its important program are appreciated very much.
