Student Perspective

As a student at Michigan Lutheran Seminary, I participated in the fine arts program in drama, choir, and band. I was blessed to have a very involved life in these programs, which led to many wonderful opportunities.

The choir allowed me to witness my faith to others in song and meet fellow members of the WELS church on choir tour. I got to see how different churches from various regions worshiped Jesus in a different way culturally, but worshiped the same Jesus we worship every day of our lives. It was so encouraging to see so many individuals on fire for Jesus everywhere we went.

I was also blessed to be a lead in multiple productions in the theater program at MLS. These experiences built my confidence and creativity. As I train to be a future pastor, these experiences have helped to build me up for my future callings in life. It showed me that the show must go on, no matter what, and that can be very true in ministry when things don’t go the right way.

Finally, as a member of our band, I got to learn the confidence it takes to perform a solo and the true blessing that instrumental music is to the church. I played at many local churches that were always extremely appreciative, and it made me realize how much such a small thing can mean to anyone on any day.

In all things, the fine arts program at MLS led me to recognize that I have the gifts to serve our Savior in the public ministry, and since I was blessed to be able to participate in such a way at MLS, I can now have the confidence to share the Word with everyone around the globe.
